Srinagar: National Investigation Agency (NIA, India’s Counter Terrorism Task Force) on Saturday arrested two alleged OGWs (over ground workers) in a case termed as TRF conspiracy case, registered suo-moto by the agency in November last year.
According to a statement, NIA conducted searches at four locations in North Kashmir’s Kupwara and south Kashmir’s Pulwama, Shopian during which two persons were arrested as OGWs.
"Two over ground workers of TRF who were in contact with their Pakistan based handlers were arrested for providing logistic support for (militant) activities, spreading militant propaganda, radicalising and recruiting new members to TRF," the statement said.
They have been identified as Muzamil Mushtaq Bhat, son of Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat, resident of Khwaja Bagh, Fatehpora in Baramulla and Fayaz Ahmad Khan, son of Abdul Rasheed Khan, resident of Warpora, Zachaldara, Kupwara.
“The case relates to activities of ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its self-styled commander Sajjad Gul, who has been actively radicalising, motivating and recruiting youth of J&K for indulging in violent activities in J&K and other parts of India,” NIA said in the statement.
“He along with his other associate commanders of LeT based in Pakistan, have been recruiting individuals as (Over Ground Workers) to conduct reconnaissance of pre-determined targets, coordinating and transporting arms/ammunition/explosives to support the (militants) of LeT and TRF in order to launch attacks on forces and execute targeted killings," the statement reads.
During raids, Nia said digital devices (mobile phones, Laptop, SIM cards and memory cards) and incriminating material used for fabrication of IEDs, ‘Jihadi’ literature/posters etc. have been seized.
Further investigation in the case continues, the NIA added.
