Srinagar, Apr 1 — Employees working under the National Health Mission (NHM) on Wednesday began a 48-hour sit-in at the Press Enclave here, pressing for long-pending demands including pay revision and job security.
Scores of employees participated in the protest, calling for alignment of wages with counterparts in other states, a clear job policy, and implementation of social security measures such as EPF, ESI, insurance and post-retirement benefits.
“NHM employees have been at the forefront of healthcare delivery, particularly during emergencies, but continue to face uncertainty over wages and job security,” the protesters said.
They alleged that repeated assurances from the administration have not translated into concrete action, prompting the sit-in.
The employees warned that failure to address their demands could lead to an escalation of protests in the coming days.
The association had earlier announced a 48-hour sit-in across Jammu and Kashmir starting Wednesday to press for their demands.
