Handwara: A newly constructed building of government boys high school, Guloora in the Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district developed major cracks, thereby putting the lives of students and staff at risk.
Locals said they had already informed concerned authorities that the contractor had used substandard material for construction.
They alleged that the building was recently handed over to the department and it developed cracks soon afterward.
"We had already informed the head of the institution that the concerned contractor has used substandard material in its construction but she did not pay any heed and today, the results are apparent," he said.
"We demand a probe and the concerned contractor must be taken accountable, locals added.
They also appealed to deputy commissioner Kupwara to take note of this issue and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
CEO Kupwara was repeatedly called for comments, but he didn’t respond.
