Militants Flee From Kulgam Encounter

Kulgam: After a brief exchange of fire, militants fled from the Kulgam encounter (military operation) in the Rampora-Qaimoh area of south Kashmir.

The operation started last night when a joint team of Police, Army’s 1 RR, and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) launched CASO (Cordon and search operation) on specific information about the presence of militants in the Rampora area of Kulgam, officials said.

After a brief firing, they managed to flee, an official said on Sunday.

He said that as the joint team of forces reached the suspected spot, the militants fired and the encounter started.

"After an initial exchange of fire, no contact was established with the militants", he said.

He said that cordon layers were tightened, however, no militants were found during subsequent searches after which the operation was called off.
