Budgam: A 41-year-old man died from electric shock while cutting grass on his land in the Beerwah area of central Kashmirโ€™s Budgam district on Thursday with locals protesting outside the hospital premises, alleging negligence by the Power Development Department (PDD) due to low-lying transmission lines posing a threat to lives.

The victim was identified as Imtiyaz Ah Dar (41), son of Mohammad Sultan Dar of Chewdara Beerwah.

An official stated that the man received an electric shock when he โ€œunexpectedlyโ€ came into contact with a live wire.

"He was immediately rushed to a nearby health center, where he was pronounced dead," the official added.

Meanwhile, locals staged a protest outside the hospital premises, accusing the PDD of negligence regarding the low-lying transmission lines, which they claim are endangering lives.

Authorities confirmed that the police have taken cognizance of the incident.
