Shopian: A newly recruited local militant was killed in a military operation in the Kathohalan area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday, J&K police said.
The slain was identified as Mysar Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar and a resident of Vishro, Shopian. However, his age wasn’t revealed by the Police.
A senior police officer said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the Kathohalan area.
"During the search operation, as the joint party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militant fired indiscriminately upon them, which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” he said.
"Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition were recovered from the site,” he added.
