Local ‘Militant’ Killed, Cop Injured In Kulgam’s Hawoora: Police

Srinagar: A local ‘militant’ was killed while a policeman was injured during an encounter (military operation) in Hawoora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday, police said.

He has been identified as Adil Majeed Lone, son of Abdul Majeed Lone and a resident of Akbarabad, Hawoora area of Kulgam.

His age wasn’t mentioned by the Police. However, he has shot a video prior to the operation. The video, which has been shared online, shows he was a teenager.

In the video, the ‘militant’ was holding a pistol, and said: “I have been working with Al Badr militant group from a very long time and today I was sleeping at my house when Indian army suddenly zeroed in my house from all sides and started firing. I retaliated with my pistol.”  

However, Police said that the operation was launched by Police, Army (1st RR) and CRPF (18 Bn) in the area and categorised that the militant was working for Al-Badr.

“The hiding terrorist was given an opportunity to surrender, however he kept on firing on the joint forces. The fire was effectively retaliated, leading to an encounter,” the police statement said.

“Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including a Pistol with live ammunition and a Grenade were recovered from the site of encounter,” the statement reads.
