Anantnag: A two-year-old infant boy was mauled to death by a Leopard at Check Dadoo village of Bijbehara in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday evening.
An official identified the slain as Burhan Zahoor, son of Zahoor Ahmad Khan and a resident of Check Dadoo in Sangam area of Bijbehara hamlet.
As per reports, he was pounced upon by a leopard near his residence and dragged the boy into dense orchards.
Alerted by the cries, the family and locals chased the leopard and retrieved the boy in critical condition, he said.
They evacuated the boy to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bijbehara where he succumbed to his injuries, he said.
The incident created panic among the villagers, who demanded authorities to trap the leopard as soon as possible.
They alleged that such incidents have come to the fore in the area several times but department has failed to trap the animal.
