KUPWARA, Sep 28: A 12-year-old boy was killed in a leopard attack in the Marsary area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Ayan Ashraf, son of Mohammad Ashraf Mir, a resident of Zonrashi Chowkibal.
An official said the boy was attacked by a leopard in Marsary during the night and sustained serious injuries.
“He was attacked by a leopard and suffered critical injuries,” the official said, adding that the boy later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, locals recovered the boy’s body from a nearby forest area, officials said.
The incident has triggered concern among residents, who have urged the Wildlife Department to take immediate measures to prevent further leopard attacks in the area.
Officials said cognizance of the incident has been taken and further action is being looked into.
