Landslides Block Jammu -Srinagar Highway

Qazigund: The Jammu-Srinagar Highway was closed for traffic movement on Friday due to fresh landslides and slush at several places on the stretch, officials.ย ย 

An official said the NH-44 has been blocked due to landslides, mudslides and slush at multiple places, it will take 6-7 hours to clear the same.ย

He said that no fresh vehicle shall be allowed from either side till clearance of road.

As the highway has been blocked due to landslides, Amarnath pilgrims who were coming from Jammu towards Kashmir have been stopped at Yatri Niwas in Chanderkote where arrangements are already in place for them.ย

Pilgrims will be allowed to move towards Kashmir, once road is cleared.ย 
ย 
Around one lakh pilgrims have performed the Hindu holy pilgrimage in Kashmir so far.ย 
ย 
Amarnath Yatra commenced on June 30 after two years due to Covid-19 and will conclude on August 11.ย

Meanwhile,Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumuri (SSG) road has also been closed for vehicular movement in view of maintenance and repair of Zojila axis.ย 
ย 
However, traffic on the historic Mughal road, connecting the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region with south Kashmirโ€™s Shopian district is plying smoothly.
