Leh, Aug 9: Ladakh is likely to experience generally cloudy weather over the next few days, with light to moderate rain forecast at scattered places, particularly in the Serchu-Manali and Changthang areas, the Meteorological Centre Leh said on Sunday.

According to the latest weather update issued at 9:30 am, the weather is expected to remain pleasant in the Changthang region on Sunday, while most other parts of Ladakh are likely to remain cloudy. A brief spell of light rain is possible at some places in Kargil, Drass, Sham and Leh districts.

The weather department clarified that no heavy rainfall is expected during the forecast period.

For August 10-12, cloudy conditions are likely to prevail at most places, with light to moderate rain at scattered locations, mainly over the Serchu-Manali and Changthang areas.

The Meteorological Centre said there is no forecast of major rainfall from August 13 to 20, with a 60-65 percent probability of no major rainfall during the period.

There is also no heavy rainfall warning at present.

The department, however, advised farmers not to harvest crops or Alfa Alfa (Ol) grass on August 11 and 12, when weather conditions are expected to remain unsettled.

It also advised people to avoid outdoor activities during the two days, particularly in view of the rapidly changing weather conditions in mountainous areas.

“There is no risk of flight cancellation and temporary closure of passes/blockage of roads during the forecast period,” the advisory said, while urging travellers to remain updated about weather and road conditions.

The department cautioned that landslides and flash floods can occur with little or no specific warning and advised people to exercise caution, particularly while travelling through vulnerable mountainous areas.
