Ladakh: A complete shutdown was observed in Ladakh demanding statehood and constitutional safeguards like it had enjoyed before 5 August 2019 when no outsider could buy land or applicable for jobs in Ladakh.
Both of the districts of Leh and Kargil roads were deserted and all commercial and business activities were halted.
The shutdown call was given by an alliance between Leh-based apex body and Kargil Democratic Alliance.

The alliance has threatened agitation if demands are not met.
They also demand constitutional safeguards on the lines of the 6th schedule; separate parliament seats for Leh and Kargil districts and recruitment for 12,000 posts in Ladakh.
Ironically, when J&K was stripped of its statehood and downgraded into two union territories, there were celebrations in Leh.
The Ladakh Buddhist Association, which was part of the celebrations then, is now a part of the political alliance demanding statehood and constitutional guarantees for job and land rights exclusively for the people of Ladakh.
The two groups have come together as an alliance for the first time.
