"On Thursday, two militants of the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen outfit were killed so far. One of them has been identified as Zubair Sofi of Mohan Pora Kulgam who was involved in the killing of woman teacher Mrs. Rajni Bala from Samba on May 31,โ€ police said.
ย
โ€œThe identification of the second slain is being ascertained as the operation is still in progress,"
ย
The operation was launched by the police along with (Armyโ€™s) 1st RR on 14 June on specific information about the presence of militants.
ย
โ€œAs the party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding (militants) fired indiscriminately upon the search party which was retaliated effectively by the joint forces,โ€ police said in a statement.ย
ย
โ€œThe hiding (militants) managed to shift their base consistently in the village after the initial exchange of fire and tried to breach the cordon but the cordon remained firmly intact and search was going on from the past two days to nab them," a police officer said.ย
ย
On Thursday, he said, the contact was re-established with the hiding militants and the encounter resumed.
ย
However, no fresh contact has been established with any hiding militants since yesterday, the officer added.
