Srinagar: The residents of Kashmir valley have intensified their protests against the installation of smart meters. Despite their longstanding objections, authorities are yet to address their concerns and instead reprimands with power outage.
For over a year now, Kashmiri residents have been raising objections to the installation of smart meters in their households. The main bone of contention revolves around the soaring electricity bills generated by these meters, which the residents claim they cannot afford.
As per reports, the protests against smart meters were held in Habba Kadal, Nawabazar and Batamaloo areas of the Srinagar city.
Hundreds of protestors took to the streets with their families, including children, to voice their opposition to the installation of smart meters.
The demonstrations, widely publicized, saw impassioned slogans being chanted while criticizing the local administration for its decision.
The protesters deemed the implementation of these meters as unacceptable and called for immediate action to address their concerns.
“We are poor and middle-class families here; we cannot afford to pay hefty bills generated by these smart meters. It is totally unacceptable,” protestors said
These protests have been ongoing for over a year, However, authorities have seemingly turned a deaf ear to the demands of the people.
