Srinagar: A militant who was killed today in a military operation in north Kashmir’s Karhama, Kunzer has been identified as Abid Wani, son of Mohammad Rafiq Wani and a resident of Yarhol, Babapora area of south Kashmir’s kulgam district.
A local militant affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Toiba was killed in an encounter that broke out during the wee hours on Thursday at Karhama Kunzer area in Baramulla, J&K Police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Amod Nagpure told reporters that a joint cordon and search operation by Army’s 02 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF 176 BN and Police was launched after accessing intelligence inputs.
“As the joint party reached the spot, the local militant who had taken shelter in a residential house opened indiscriminate firing upon them, triggering into an encounter,” he said.
One AK 47 rifle was recovered from his dead-body, he added.
Asked about back-to-back anti-militancy operations and the adherence of G20 meeting in Srinagar, the SSP said, “security forces have been kept on extra vigil.”
"We are ready to neutralize any threat. There is strong coordination among forces and security agencies which is helping in neutralizing threats. G20 Summit won’t be affected and will be organized successfully,” the officer said.
A case in this regard has been registered in a local Police Station and further investigations have been taken up.
The details pertaining to this case will be shared accordingly, the SSP added.
For Four consecutive days, Forces have killed six militants in four separate encounters (military operations) in which three were local militants and three are unidentified.
In Pir Panchal, five army personnel were also killed after ‘unidentified militants threw explosives during the operation.’
