Srinagar: Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) among nine military personnel lost their lives when the vehicle they were traveling in lost control, skidded off the road, and plunged into a deep gorge in the Leh district of Ladakh on Saturday.
The incident occurred when an army vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in the Nyoma area, Kyari, an official said.
Soon after the incident, he said, a massive rescue operation was launched at the site. However, eight personnel died on the spot and two others were injured.
The injured were evacuated to hospital and one of them succumbed to injuries later, the officer added.
All the bodies have been receovered, he said.
The soldiers were moving from Karu Garrison to Kyari when the accident took place, sources said.
