Jammu: Jammu city on Saturday observed a partial shutdown on the call given by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries against the imposition of property tax in J&K.
As per reports, the markets in Jammu city remained closed in the morning but opened later in the day.
Arun Gupta, President of, JCCI said that the LG government has imposed the property tax without consulting anybody and without taking the business community and the general public into confidence.”
“Presently the government has no land policy, there are no ownership rights or lease rights,” he said.
The people of Jammu are already disturbed due to the non-cooperative attitude of the government and instead of giving any relief to the people, the government imposed property tax which is the prerogative of the elected government, he added.
However, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha said the doors are open for dialogue on the issue and the interests of the people have been given priority while framing the rules.
While addressing the media during a function in Jammu, he said “we will welcome any suggestions from the public at the toll-free number”
All major political parties including the National Conference, Congress, Democratic Azad Party, and National Panthers Party supported the shutdown call.
Meanwhile, the Yuva Rajput Sabha also took out a march from Bohri to Talab Tillo.
