An Officer of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ Quds Force, Colonel Hassan Sayad Khodayari have been assassinated in Iran’s capital Tehran on Sunday afternoon.
As per reports, IRGC member Colonel Sayyad Khodaei was assassinated by two terrorists on motorbikes when he was entering his home.
Khodayari operated in Syria, according to the IRGC statement.
IRGC is a branch of the Iranian armed forces, independent of Iran’s regular army established by Iran’s spritual leader Ruhollah Khomeini in April 1979 to safeguard the Islamic republic that was formed after the (1978–79) Iranian Revolution.
Reportedly, Photos from the scene showed slain Khodayari lifeless in his vehicle after he was shot dead.
The IRGC called the assassination a "criminal terrorist act of the counter-revolution and elements related to global arrogance (a term often used to refer to the US and Israel)."
Shortly after the assassination, the IRGC claimed that it had arrested a "network of thugs" associated with the Mossad (Mossad is the national intelligence agency of Israel.)
It is pertinent to mention that IRGC General Qassem Soleimani was assassinated alongside six others following a US air raid at Baghdad’s international airport on January 3, 2020.
