Srinagar: An infiltration bid was foiled by the Indian military and J&K police along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday by killing two militants, officials said.
The operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs received from various agencies, suggesting a potential infiltration by heavily armed militants from across the LoC in the Uri Sector, they said.
Troops were put on high alert, and a strengthened counter-infiltration grid was activated, they added.
“Taking advantage of unfavourable weather conditions, including incessant rainfall and poor visibility, a group of armed terrorists attempted to cross the LoC.”
“At approximately 3 pm, troops engaged the infiltrators, leading to a fierce exchange of fire. The intense firefight continued until late evening, culminating in the elimination of two terrorists, while the remaining members of the group retreated across the LoC with the bodies of their deceased comrades,” they said further.
The area remained under constant surveillance throughout the night.
On October 22, a comprehensive search of the incident site was conducted, and a cache of weapons and supplies were recovered including two AK series rifles, six pistols, four Chinese grenades, blankets, and two blood-stained bags containing both Pakistani and Indian currency notes, along with Pakistani medicines and eatables.
The operation is currently ongoing, with forces maintaining a vigilant watch along the LoC in the Uri sector, officials added.
