Srinagar: An Imam identified as Waseem Raja, son of Ali Mohd Malla was arrested for allegedly committing an unnatural sexual offence on a 9-year-old minor in Srinagar on Tuesday, Police said.
As per Police, the Imam was currently leading prayers at Masjid Aisha Malikangan,
The FIR (First Information Report) numbered 30/2023 has been registered at Maharaj Gunj Police Station, Police said.
The accused has been booked under sections 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 5 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Police added.
In a post, Police posted on X (formerly known as Twitter: “One Waseem Raja S/o Ali Mohd Malla R/o Noorbagh presently working as Imaam at Masjid Aisha Malikaagun arrested for committing unnatural sexual offence on a 09 years child. FIR 30/2023 under sections 377 of IPC and 5, 6 of POCSO Act registered in Maharaj Gunj PS.”
