IGP Directs Surprise Checkpoints in Srinagar’s Uptown, Downtown Areas

Srinagar: Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi, convened a meeting at PCR (Police Control Room) in Srinagar on Sunday, directing officers to intensify security/surprise naka (checkpoint) in both uptown and downtown areas of Srinagar, with 24ร—7 patrolling and increased presence at entry and exit points of the district.ย

He directed officers to ensure heightened vigilance, particularly during night hours, to mitigate the risk of threats or attacks.ย

The meeting was attended by senior officers of various security agencies including police, Army, BSF, CRPF, SSB, CISF besides state and Central intelligence agencies.ย 
ย 
The meeting also reviewed security arrangements in anticipation of visits by VVIPs to J&K, as well as other events in the offing.

It is pertinent to mention Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit the Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur on February 24, where he will inaugurate a new building of the Command Hospital.ย 
ย 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to visit J&K on February 20 to inaugurate the foundation stone of many developmental projects.
