Poonch: In a recent Poonch encounter (military operation) with J&K police and military, one of the two militants killed have been identified by Indian Army as Muneser Hussain, a veteran Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) commander.
According to the army’s statement, Hussain was tasked with reviving terrorism in Rajouri and Poonch districts. He had a history of involvement in attacks on security forces and had attended a high-level HM group meeting in Islamabad with the agenda of reviving terrorism in the region.
In a statement issued by PRO (Defence) Jammu, said that the slain was identified as Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Muneser Hussain, son of Sattar Mohammad and a resident of Bagyladra Poonch.
In 1993, Hussain went to Pakistan controlled Kashmir and came back in 1996. He again returned in 1998, reads the statement.
As per police records, his family of two wives and children are residents of Surankote, Poonch.”
Hussain was a close associate of Maulana Dawood Kashmir (TuJ) who in turn is a close associate of Syed Salahuddin, the statement said.
“Recently high-level meeting of HM group took place in Islamabad which he attended. Agenda of meeting was revival of HM in Rajouri Poonch,” it said.
“From this we can make out that Muneer Hussain along with his body guard was sent with the agenda of reviving HM in Rajouri Poonch / South of Pir-Panjal (SPPR).”
