Handwara: Residents of Baki-Aker area in North Kashmir’s Handwara on Tuesday said that the illegal mining in a local Waterway is causing troubles to local population and alleged that the authorities have terribly failed to stop it.
A local delegation said that each night, heavy machinery plunder minerals from the local nallah (waterway) illegaly and the concerned department i.e the Department of Geology & Minining have failed to stop it despite informing them repeatedly.
However, an official from the Geology & Mining Department said that the issue has been already brought into notice.
“We have seized two tractors along with material from the site a few days before”, the official said
Meanwhile, locals also urged the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara and the relevant department to initiate action against this illegal activity as the water level has been rising since then.
