Handwara Residents Decry Illegal Mining

Handwara: Residents of Baki-Aker area in North Kashmirโ€™s Handwara on Tuesday said that the illegal mining in a local Waterway is causing troubles to local population and alleged that the authorities have terribly failed to stop it.ย 

A local delegation said that each night, heavy machinery plunder minerals from the local nallah (waterway) illegaly and the concerned department i.e the Department of Geology & Minining have failed to stop it despite informing them repeatedly.ย

However, an official from the Geology & Mining Department said that the issue has been already brought into notice.ย

โ€œWe have seized two tractors along with material from the site a few days beforeโ€, the official said
ย 
Meanwhile, locals also urged the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara and the relevant department to initiate action against this illegal activity as the water level has been rising since then.ย
