Srinagar: The government of India announced to deploy additional 15,000 government forces personnel in Kashmir Valley after the recent killing of pandit migrant in the Valley.
Earlier, it was announced that the government will deploy 300 additional companies of government forces for the annual Hindu holy Amarnath Pilgrimage.
"This troop deployment will be in addition to the forces deployed for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra," sources said.
They said that the decision of deploying additional security forces in the Valley has been taken in wake of the recent killing a Kashmiri migrant employee Rahul Bhat in Budgam district last week.
The decision came after Union Home Minister Amit Shah constituted a meeting over the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and instructed that additional forces needs be deployed.
The meeting was attended by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Army Staff Gen Manoj Pande, and senior officials of the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
The pilgrimage would begin first time since the loss of the semi-autonomous status of J&K was scrapped in 2019. Followed by The covid lockdown In 2020 and 2021.
The Amarnath Pilgrimage is set to begin on 30 June, around eight lakh pilgrims are expected to undertake the pilgrimage this year in cave shrine, located at an altitude of 3,888 metres, high in the mountains and Himalayan glaciers of South Kashmir’s Lidder Valley.
The Hindu pilgrims believe that over 5,000 years ago Lord Shiva, one of the religion’s most revered deities, revealed the secret of immortality and creation of the universe in an enormous cave high up in these snowcapped peaks.
The ultimate goal of their journey is to go inside the sacred cave to see an ice stalagmite or ice lingam they think is the mark of Lord Shiva.
