Sopore: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday said a OGW (Over ground workers) module was busted in Sopore, north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and four persons accused of being OGWs were arrested; two of them were held at a check-post with two grenades and two more when the prior ones confessed about them during the investigation.
In a statement Police said that a joint (Check-post) naka was established at Gousiabad Chowk, Chinkipora in Sopore by Sopore Police along with 22 RR (Rashtriya Rifles) Army and 179 CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) on Friday.
“During checking, suspicious movement of two persons coming from Dangerpora towards Chinkipora was noted and were subsequently asked to stop, but they tried to flee from the spot, however, they were tactfully apprehended,” the statement said.
They were identified as Shakir Akber Gojree of Bandipora and Mohsin Wani of Baramulla, two grenades were also recovered from their personal search.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested persons are OGWs of LeT and were attempting for an opportunity to carry out attacks on security forces and civilians. Accordingly, case has been registered at Police station Sopore under relevant sections of law,” it said.
“Further investigation revealed names of other OGWs which led to the arrest of two more persons and recovery of further arms and ammunition which includes one Chinese pistol, one pistol magazine, 7 live pistol rounds, 25 AK 47 rounds and explosive material,” it reads.
They have been identified as Himayun Shariq of Sopore and Faizan Ashraf Wani of Rafiabad, while further investigation is going on, it added.
