Srinagar: Three local militants were killed in an encounter (military operation against militants) in the Munj Marg area of South Kashmir’s Shopian on Tuesday, Police said.
In a statement to The Himalayan Post, Police said that a CASO (Cordon and search operation) was launched by Police, the Indian Army (1RR), and (Central Reserve Police Force) CRPF (178Bn).
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists sic fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, 03 local terrorists were killed,” the police statement reads.
They have been identified as Mohd Lateef Lone, a resident of the Check-Kachidoora area of Shopian, Umer Nazir Bhat, a resident of Check Ban- Dialgam area of Anantnag, and Danish Hussain Kakroo, a resident of Old Town, Baramulla. However, their age wasn’t mentioned in the statement.
As per police records, all slain were categorized militants and ‘involved in several criminal cases including attacks on Police/SFs and civilians.’
“Latif Ahmad was involved in the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit Shri Purana Krishna Bhat. While as, the Umer Nazir was involved in in the killing of Till Bahadur Thapa of Nepal,” it reads.
“Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK-47 rifle, 02 Pistols, and 02 Grenades were recovered from the site of encounter,” it added.
