Shopian: A local militant of the LeT outfit was killed in an encounter (military operation) in the Baskuchan village area of Imamsahib in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.
The slain militant has been identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhat, a resident of the Nowpora locality in Baskuchan. However, his age was not revealed by the authorities.
As per the police, he was associated with the LeT (Lashkar-e-Toiba) outfit.
Quoting ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, Police said that the slain militant was involved in several crimes and had recently escaped from an encounter.
“Killed #terrorist identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhat of Nowpora Baskuchan #Shopian, linked with LeT #terror outfit. #Incriminating materials, arms & ammo including AK rifle recovered. He was involved in several #terror crimes and recently escaped from an #encounter: ADGP Kashmir,” police tweeted.
The operation was launched by a joint team of police, the Army, and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
Meanwhile, sources said that the firing has stopped in the area.
