Srinagar, Feb 20 — A section of the footpath along Dal Lake near Ghat Number 17 on Boulevard Road collapsed following a brief spell of rain, raising safety concerns for pedestrians and questions over the quality of infrastructure under Srinagar’s Smart City project.
Eyewitnesses said the footpath caved in on Thursday, damaging newly installed tiles. While no injuries were reported, pedestrians narrowly avoided potential harm.
"Most of the work here is recent, and this collapse speaks volumes about the execution and standards. This could have been a major accident, especially in an area frequented by tourists and locals," said a passerby.
National Conference chief spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, flagged the issue on X, urging authorities to take immediate action.
"A critical issue has emerged near Ghat No. 17, Boulevard Road, where the path and soil have been washed away. Immediate intervention from the DC Srinagar is needed," he posted.
