Srinagar: Five unidentified militants have been killed along the Line of Control in Machil Sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday, police said.
However, the identification of the slain militants remain ascertained.
In a statement to The Himalayan Post, Police said that a joint operation was launched by Kupwara Police & Indian Army’s (56RR) after receiving intelligence inputs about an infiltration attempt.
“During the intervening night of 25-26th October at Sardari Nar area along the Line of Control in Machil Sector, multiple ambushes were laid by the joint teams along the LoC. However, today, the joint team observed suspicious movement in the thick dense forests of the area who took advantage of difficult terrain infiltrated our side,” reads the statement.
“The terrorists were intercepted who fired indiscriminately upon the joint team. The fire was retaliated, leading to the elimination of five (05) unidentified terrorists linked with the proscribed terror outfit LeT,” it reads.
“Huge cache of arms & ammunition including five (05) AK rifles & other incriminating materials has been recovered from the site of the encounter,” said the statement.
