Kupwara: Five Over Ground Workers (OGWs) have been arrested for their involvement in the smuggling of arms and ammunition, recovering these items on Saturday, as stated by the police.
According to the spokesperson, acting on credible information, the police, along with the 9 Para Field Regiment, busted a module involved in smuggling various arms and ammunition.
“The arms were sent by two Pakistan-controlled Kashmir-based LeT handlers, namely Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh and Qazi Mohammad Khushal, currently operating from across the Line of Control.”

“Zahoor Ahmad Bhat was arrested, and various incriminating materials, including one AK rifle, magazine, 20 AK rounds, two pistols, and magazines, were recovered from him,” he said.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that in the recent past, the two handlers from across the LOC were in touch with Zahoor, who hails from a village in proximity to the LoC, using various means.”
"The consignments dispatched to this side from across were delivered to other OGWs who were in contact with Zahoor and the handlers as well."
“Based on further leads, four more OGWs—Khursheed Ahmad Rather, Mudassir Shafiq, Ghulam Sarwar Rather, and Qazi Fazal Illahi—have also been arrested, with arms, ammunition, and other incriminating materials recovered from them.”
The case is being investigated expeditiously and comprehensively to further unearth the conspiracy regarding the smuggling of arms and ammunition, he added.
