Srinagar: Two unidentified militant have been killed in an ongoing encounter (military operation) at Sirchan Top, Batkoot forest area of Pahalgam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.
Official sources said that two unidentified militant were killed in an ongoing encounte as the identity of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained.
Earlier, a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Batkoot forest area of Pahalgam.
As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.
Pahalgam is a famous tourist destination and hill station girded by tall and dense mountains with lush green meadows and ozzes pristine Lidder river.
The area is located at an altitude of 7,200 feet, 45 kilometres from Anantnag town and 100 kms from Srinagar city.
The place is also used as an entry base camp for Hindu Holy pilgrimage Amarnath.
