New Delhi/Srinagar: Delhi High Court Judge Amit Sharma decided not to hear a case where the National Investigation Agency (NIA) wants Kashmir separatist leader Yasin Malik to get the death penalty for allegedly funding ‘terrorism.’
As the case was supposed to go before a bench led by Justice Prathiba M Singh due to changes in how judges handle such cases, Justice Singh said the case should go to another bench, not the one Judge Sharma is on, and set August 9 as the next date.
The court also said Malik should appear virtually on that day.
Last year on May 29, the high court told Malik about the NIA’s request for his death penalty in the terrorism funding case and asked him to come to court next time. After that, jail officials asked to let him appear virtually because he’s a "very high-risk prisoner" and it’s crucial for public safety not to bring him to court.
The high court agreed to this request.
