Srinagar: A data breaching report has exposed the personal data of over one million students of University of Kashmir and available on the dark web, however, the university officials said that the information is ‘unmodified.’
The alleged database of Kashmir University students has been put on sale for just $250 on a hacking forum by "ViktorLustig, the report reads.
It is pertinent to mention that the name is inspired by the infamous con artist who “sold” the Eiffel Tower, not once but twice.
The threat actor has shared a database index to show the data he has in his possession and claims to include student information, registration number, phone number, email address, password, employee data and more.
“The database is listed on Breached Forums, the famous hacking forum that gained international attention earlier this month with a data breach exposing over 1 billion Chinese residents, the report says.
Meanwhile Kashmir University in a statement said that the varsity data was “unmodified and that further analysis is underway.”
"Any breach on data read (which is already accessible in public domain) is being analyzed in-depth and depending upon the analysis, University will take further course of action and take an appropriate legal recourse accordingly," the spokesperson of the university further said.
Dark Web is an encrypted online content that is not indexed on conventional search engines and allow users and website operators to remain anonymous or untraceable.
