As the US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi concluded her visit to Taiwan on Wednesday, China imposed ban on the import of fruit, fish from Taiwan, halted sand shipments to the island and announced live-fire military drills encircling the country.
Earlier, China warned US over Taiwan and told US President Joe Biden that ‘playing with fire will only get burnt’ during the two-hour long phone call.
In Taiwan, Nancy Pelosi pledged that the American commitment to democracy on the self-governing island and elsewhere “remains ironclad.”

Pelosi was the first US House speaker to visit the island in more than 25 years, and China swiftly responded by announcing multiple military exercises.
More disruptions of agricultural and food trade can be expected in the coming days, said Even Pay, an agriculture analyst at consultancy Trivium China was quoted saying.
Taiwan is an island, roughly 100 miles from the coast of south east China. China claims Taiwan is a part of the China but the island is located in the so-called "first island chain", which includes a list of US-friendly territories that are crucial to US foreign policy. However, Taiwan calls itself as an independent country.
