Srinagar: As the harshest forty day period, Chillai Kalan entered its 12th day; the dry spell prevailed at upper reaches and plains of Kashmir valley with MeT predicting dry weather till Jan 11.
Chilai kalan is the harshest forty-day period in Kashmir which begins from 21st December to 29th Jan every year, followed by twenty day period of Chillai Khurd (mild cold) from January 30 and February 18 and 10-days long Chillai Bachha (Baby cold) from February 19 to February 28.
According to the MeT department: “The chances of precipitation at upper reaches of the valley are low which means no chances of rainfall for the plains.”
As per reports shared by the MET, Kashmir’s capital Srinagar recorded minus 4.8 degree Celsius.
South Kashmir’s Pahalgam logged the coldest night at minus 6.2 degree Celsius.
While Qazigund recorded minus 4.4 degree Celsius, Kokernag logged minus 2.7 degree Celsius.
In North Kashmir, Gulmarg, the world-famous ski-resort recorded a low of minus 4.0 degree Celsius with Kupwara logging minus 4.6 degree Celsius.
