Faculty members of the (CVTS) Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Department at Kashmirโ€™s premier hospital SKIMS (Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science) have been protesting for six days over the closure and shifting of the Cardiac (Intensive Care Unit) ICU.

Reliable sources in the hospital said that the hospital operations are not going smoothly as far as the up-gradation of Cardiac ICU is concerned and the faculty is observing a protest leave since 29th of June 2022.

Concerned doctors alleged that the faculty members along with their staff members have been harassed time and again by the Hospital administration, particularly by the Medical Superintendent SKIMS, who has been a sending team of security personnel to forcibly evacuate the Cardiac ICU and shift the sick patients who have undergone major Cardiac Procedures recently.

โ€œRepeated requests by the faculty members have been ignored by the hospital administration, posing a life threat to the patients,โ€ they said.

The administration is shifting the Cardiac ICU to some unsafe place which has been retaliated by the faculty both verbally as well as in writing, the faculty said.

โ€œThe faculty of CVTS Department is not able to work smoothly and have no choice than to proceed on โ€œProtest Leave W.e.F 29th of June- 2022โ€, said an insider.

Patients, as well as attendants, have urged the Lt Governor led administration to look into the matter as a priority.
