Bus Skids Off Road, Killing 36 In Chenab Region’s Doda

Doda: At least 36 people were killed and 19 injured after a passenger bus fell into a deep gorge in Assar area of Chenab region’s Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning.

News agency KNO quoted an official saying that the bus skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Assar area today morning.

The rescue team rushed immediately and the injured were taken to the hospital, he said.

“Critically injured people have been airlifted to Jammu city,” he added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed his condolences, expressing deep sorrow and announcing a relief measure of Rs 2 lakh for each family member of the deceased.

In a post on X (foremerly Twitter), PMO India said: “The bus accident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir is distressing. My condolences to the families who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF (Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund) would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured.”
