Budgam: Members of the District Development Council (DDC) in central Kashmirโ€™s Budgam have filed a no-confidence motion against the current chairperson of the council.
ย
Sources said that 13 council members have initiated the no-confidence motion against DDC chairperson Nazir Ahmad Khan.
ย
They allege that "the chairperson has failed to convene any council meetings for over a year and has neglected his duties as the councilโ€™s leader."
ย
Vice-chairperson Nazir Ahmad Jahra, affiliated with the National Conference, is also among those who have supported the no-confidence motion.
ย
Earlier, 10 members moved the no-confidence motion against DDC Chairperson Srinagar, Aftab Malik, affiliated with the Apni Party.
ย
Notably, these developments started after the Jammu and Kashmir administration amended the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Rules, 1996, to define the rules for the removal of the Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons of the District Development Council (DDC) members.ย

In Kashmir, the District Development Council (DDC) is a local government body responsible for decentralized governance at the district level. It was established after the abrogation of Article 370 as part of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, which restructured the governance framework in the region.
