Anantnag, Sept 18: A black bear was rescued after falling into a water tank in the Bradiangan area of Uttersoo in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Friday.
The Wildlife Department launched a rescue operation after receiving information about the animal being trapped inside the tank. The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Wildlife Warden South, with the Range Officer Bringhi Valley and personnel from the Control Room Achabal reaching the spot.
Personnel from Uttersoo Police Station also assisted the wildlife team during the operation.
Officials said the team assessed the situation and took necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the bear as well as residents gathered at the site.
The bear was subsequently tranquilised and safely pulled out of the water tank by wildlife personnel.
Following the rescue, the animal was shifted away from the populated area and released into its natural habitat, officials said.
The operation was completed without any reported harm to the bear or local residents.
