Anantnag: A JCB operator, who was clearing snow accumulation at Sinthan Top, a popular mountain pass that connects south Kashmir’s Breng Valley in Anantnag district with Chenab valley’s Kishtwar was killed after he came under an avalanche on Tuesday, official sources said.
The deceased was identified as Javid Ahmad Zagoo (35) son of Abdul Aziz Zagoo and a resident of Larnoo.
As per reports, several JCBs were engaged in clearing snow and were hit by an avalanche.
While a few, working as operators, managed to escape, a few were swept away, an official said.
Immediately a massive rescue operation was launched under the supervision of Tehsildar Larnoo along with SHO Larnoo, he said.
So far the body of one JCB operator has been recovered while searches are underway for a possible missing person(s), he added.
