Srinagar: Over 81,189 new first-time voters, aged between 18 to 19 years, have been registered in the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency, according to reports.

The race for the parliamentary seat has garnered significant attention, with seasoned unionists vying for victory.

Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti will contest the Lok Sabha polls from the Anantnag-Rajouri seat against DPAP president Ghulam Nabi Azad, making the newly carved out constituency the most high-profile contest in Jammu and Kashmir in these elections.

Following the seat alliance between the Congress and National Conference (NC), the Congress has ceded ground, leaving room for NC. The National Conference is fielding influential Gujjar leader Mian Altaf Ahmad from the seat, while the Apni Party has named Zaffar Iqbal Manhas. The BJP has not announced its candidate so far.

After delimitation, the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat covers several assembly constituencies, including Jainpora, DH Pora, Doru, Kokernag, Anantnag West, Anantnag, Srigufwara-Bijbihara, Shangas-Anantnag East, Pahalgam, Nowshera, Rajouri, Budhal, Surankote, Poonch Haveli, and Mendhar assembly constituencies.
