Anantnag: A peaceful protest was staged in Anantnag town on Sunday against the government order to open 51 wine shops in various locations across Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest was marked with phamplets reading ‘we don’t want wine shops’ ‘Ban mother of all evils’ and protestors demandes an immediate reversal of the order.
“We have been hearing that wine shops are being opened in various locations of Jammu Kashmir, which incorporates our district Anantnag making the move extremely unacceptable," one of the protesters said.
Protestors also demanded a complete ban on the sale of Alcohol and other drugs in the region.
Recently, the Jammu Kashmir administration directly run by Modi government have identified 51 new locations for liquor shops.
The excise department according to reports have identified, 45 locations in different parts of the Jammu division and six in Kashmir Valley.
Kashmir Valley is a muslim majority population and Islam prohibits the consumption of Alcohol.
