Reasi: An alleged bovine smuggler, identified as Mohd Azam from Kothian village in Pouni tehsil, Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi was apprehended and arrested under PSA on Saturday.

Police stated that Azam, a known figure in bovine smuggling, has been incarcerated in Kot Bhalwal jail following his arrest.

The move was taken under the Public Safety Act (PSA) based on directives from Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police Amit Gupta.

Azam’s detention order was formally issued by the district magistrate due to his involvement in five FIRs spanning over the past three years, Police said.

These cases were registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, in Rajouri, Reasi, and Jammu, as per police.

“The decision to enforce the PSA was driven by Azam’s persistent engagement in bovine smuggling and other criminal activities, aiming to protect the wider public.”
