Kargil, Feb 26 — Amid inclement weather, the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil on Wednesday extended winter vacations for all government and private schools until March 15.
CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon chaired a meeting at the Council Secretariat to assess winter conditions and their impact on educational institutions.
Officials said, “In light of heavy snowfall and extreme cold, the CEC announced the extension of winter vacations for both government and private schools until March 15, 2025.”
The meeting was attended by Executive Councillors Kacho Mohd Feroz and Aga Syed Mujtaba, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Shrikant Suse, and Chief Education Officer Kargil.
“This decision was made to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff amid the region’s harsh weather conditions,” officials said.
Earlier, on December 4, 2024, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kargil announced a phased winter break for schools in the district. For classes 1 to 8, vacations were scheduled from December 5, 2024, to March 5, 2025, while for classes 9 to 12, they were set from December 15, 2024, to March 5, 2025.
