An FIR has been registered against 40 Muslims in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur area for offering namaz (Islamic prayers) on the streets during the occasion of Eid-al-Adha, Maktoob Media reported.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, many people who went to offer prayers at the Eidgah Masjid in the Jajmau area of Kanpur reached late, so, they decided to sit on the road and offer namaz.
The Yogi government has issued a directive prohibiting Islamic prayer on roads across Uttar Pradesh, and police are now attempting to identify those who have violated this rule by using photographs and videos.
An FIR was registered against 40 unidentified persons under IPC sections 186 (obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint).
However, no arrests have been made so far.
The new FIR comes three months after three separate FIRs were lodged in Kanpur against more than 1,000 Muslims and an Eidgah committee for the offering namaz on roads on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
