Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police said that two local militants from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district were killed in central Kashmir’s Budgam on Tuesday after they (militants) fired upon forces (Police, Army) at a checkpoint when asked to stop.

The ‘shootout’ took place at the main Chowk near the court area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district.

Quoting Additional Director General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar, Police said that both militants are identified as Arbaaz Mir and Shahid Sheikh, residents of Pulwama and linked with the proscribed militant outfit LeT (Lashkar-e-Toiba). Both had escaped from the recent encounter (military operation) in Budgam’s Magam area.

However, The Himalayan Post couldn’t verify their age.

“On specific input, the joint area domination party of Army & Police tried to stop one suspected vehicle, militants fired upon and in retaliation two militants were killed. Arms/ammunition recovered,” Police tweeted earlier.
