Srinagar, Jan 22: Three new cases of a '
mysterious illness' have emerged in the Badhaal area of Rajouri district, Jammu, with the patients being shifted for advanced medical treatment.
An official said that on Tuesday, Aijaz Ahmad, a 25-year-old youth, exhibited symptoms of the illness and was initially taken to GMC Jammu before being referred to PGI Chandigarh.
The official added that on Wednesday, two more cases were reported in Badhaal. Both patients are also being shifted for advanced medical care.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, has since visited the Koteranka area to oversee monitoring and management efforts.
Notably, 17 deaths have been recorded in the area over the last 50 days, though the government has yet to determine the cause. Investigations are underway at multiple levels.
While authorities maintain there is no evidence of a virus or infection,
Badhaal has been declared a containment zone. The houses of affected families have been sealed, and their close contacts have been shifted to GMC Rajouri for medical evaluations.
Medical teams have been deployed to the village. —KNO
