President of India Droupadi Murmu on Sunday appointed former Supreme Court judge Justice S. Abdul Nazeer as the governor of Andhra Pradesh as he retired from the country’s top court on January 4.

He is also the third judge of the 5-judge Ayodhya bench to receive a post-retirement sinecure from the Modi government.

The five-judge panel ruled the land where the Babri Masjid stood for five centuries before being illegally demolished by ‘Hindutva’ activists in December 1992 should be handed over to the Ayodhya trust and five acres were given to the Muslim waqf board.

He was also part of the demonetization and instant triple talaq case.

Other two judges; Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who headed the bench, was made a member of the Rajya Sabha soon after retirement and Justice Ashok Bhushan, who retired in July 2021 was made head of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal later that year.

‘Mandir Wahin Banega’ the construction of the temple in Ayodhya was the main manifesto of Narendra Modi’s Parliamentary elections in 2019.
