Taliban Orders Public Stoning Of Young Couple Over ‘Adultery’

The Taliban government in Afghanistan is set to carry out a public stoning of a young girl and boy  for an alleged act of adultery. The young couple, both in their 20s, will face this brutal execution in an open public gathering at a sports complex on Friday.

The public stoning is said to be streamed on TV channels and across various social media platforms.

Various human rights organizations have appealed to the United Nations, the United States, China, and Pakistan to step in and put pressure on the Taliban to halt the execution.

They argue that this act represents a gross violation of human rights and is a stark reminder of the brutal and oppressive practices that characterized the group's previous rule.

Taliban has carried out such punishment even before coming to power, they cite their interpretation of Sharia law, where adultery is considered a grave offense, and the punishment prescribed is public stoning.
