Srinagar, Feb 5 — Srinagar Police on Thursday arrested three members of a family in the Khanyar area and recovered a substantial quantity of heroin, valued in lakhs of rupees, from their possession.

Acting on specific information, a team from Police Station Khanyar intercepted a Scorpio vehicle during a routine operation, police said in a statement.

“During the search, a substantial quantity of heroin, a banned narcotic substance worth lakhs of rupees, was recovered from their possession,” the police said.

The accused, all residents of the Baghi Roop Singh and Miskeen Bagh areas of Khanyar, were taken into custody, and the vehicle used to transport the narcotics was seized.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the trio was actively involved in supplying drugs across Srinagar and had generated significant illegal proceeds through trafficking.

“The seized vehicle was reportedly purchased from the proceeds of this illicit trade,” police said.

An FIR — No. 08/2026 — has been registered at Police Station Khanyar under Sections 8, 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Police said further investigation is underway to trace both forward and backward linkages of the drug network, along with a financial probe to identify and attach properties acquired through proceeds of crime.
